1. AI emergency response system
- Telangana has rolled out an AI-powered emergency response platform called Dial 112.
- It replaces the older emergency number system with a single contact point for multiple urgent services.
- The system covers police, fire, ambulance, women’s safety, child protection, and disaster support.
- AI helps filter spam or fake calls, convert speech to text, and prioritize calls based on urgency.
- It also uses location tools to quickly identify the caller’s position and alert the nearest patrol unit.
- In selected Hyderabad and Cyberabad areas, AI-based drones will support first response operations.
2. Chess title win
- Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa won the St. Louis Rapid and Blitz 2026 title in the United States.
- He secured the title after drawing with Zavokhir Sindarov.
- The win came before the final round was completed.
- He finished with 23.5 points out of 35.
- This was his first rapid-and-blitz tournament crown.
3. Fighter combat milestone
- Bhawana Kanth became the first woman fighter pilot to complete the Fighter Combat Leader course in the Indian Air Force.
- The training took place at TACDE, Gwalior.
- The course is highly selective and is considered one of the toughest advanced fighter training programs.
- Completion of the course gives her advanced leadership qualification for complex air combat missions.
- She currently flies Su-30 MKI aircraft.
4. Scientific recognition
- Professor Karthikeyaan Lanka of IIT Bombay is among the 16 emerging scientists selected for the NASI Young Scientist Award 2026.
- His research focuses on remote sensing, land-atmosphere interactions, and agricultural drought assessment.
- The award will be presented at NASI’s annual meeting in BHU, Varanasi in December 2026.
5. Punjab’s school ranking
- Punjab has moved to the top position in NITI Aayog’s school education quality index.
- The state made a major jump from 27th place in 2020.
- Improvements in infrastructure, smart classrooms, and education initiatives contributed to the rise.
- Punjab has also introduced AI as a mandatory subject from Classes 1 to 12.
6. New ambassador
- Devesh Uttam has been appointed as India’s ambassador to Ethiopia.
7. Portable toxin detector
- IIT Guwahati has developed a low-cost portable optical device called E-Eye.
- It is designed to detect toxic substances and heavy metals in water and biological samples.
- The device can identify arsenic, lead, iron, chromium, fluoride, and E. coli.
- Its estimated construction cost is around ₹3,500, with a testing cost of about ₹2 per sample.
- Possible uses include water monitoring, food and milk testing, and industrial wastewater inspection.
8. Rice grown in space
- China harvested the first rice crop grown in space.
- The experiment took place aboard the Tiangong Space Station.
- It was part of the Shenzhou-23 mission.
- The goal was to study how crops behave in microgravity and whether their genetic stability remains intact.
- The research may support future food production on long missions to the Moon or Mars.
9. Digital crop survey
- Karnataka has launched an AI-based digital crop survey.
- The pilot project, called Composite Digital Crop Survey, began in selected hoblis.
- It combines AI, machine learning, SAR, drone surveys, and high-resolution satellite imagery.
- The aim is to improve agricultural data accuracy and support better policy decisions.
10. Drone training scheme
- Tamil Nadu has introduced the Vetri Vaanmagal drone training scheme.
- The scheme was announced in the state agriculture budget.
- It is meant to train and empower participants through drone-related skills.
11. Port award
- Deendayal Port Authority from Kandla won the Best Port of the Year – Non-Containerised award at the India Maritime Awards 2026.
- The award ceremony took place in Mumbai.

13. NASA spacewalk by Indian-origin astronaut
- Anil Menon, an astronaut of Indian origin, completed his first spacewalk outside the ISS.
- He carried out the EVA with senior NASA astronaut Jessica Meir.
- The spacewalk lasted about 6 hours and 27 minutes.
- The purpose was to upgrade and strengthen the ISS electrical systems and power pathways.

- The 2nd National Port Security Conference 2026 was held in New Delhi.
- It took place at Hyatt Regency on August 6, 2026.

- According to the 2026 employer brand survey, Google ranked first in India.

16. Silkyara tunnel rescue honor
- The 12 rat-hole miners who rescued workers in the Silkyara tunnel rescue were awarded the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak.

17. New IAF appointment
- Air Marshal Tejpal Singh has taken charge as the Deputy Chief of Air Staff of the Indian Air Force.
- He assumed office on August 1, 2026.
- He replaced Air Marshal Avadhesh Kumar Bharti after retirement.
18. GOBARdhan scheme
- The GOBARdhan – National Circular Bioenergy Scheme is being implemented under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
- It has been approved by the Union Cabinet led by the Prime Minister.
- The total outlay is ₹23,731 crore.
- The scheme will run from 2026-27 to 2035-36.
- Its goal is to sharply increase domestic compressed biogas (CBG) production and convert organic waste into clean fuel.
19. MS Swaminathan award
- Two women from Tamil Nadu, P. Pechiammal and Govindammal, received the Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Environmental Protection Award 2026.
- Pechiammal was recognized for marine conservation and removal of ghost gear from coastal waters.
- Govindammal was honored for promoting sustainable and climate-resilient farming and supporting local producer groups.
20. High-altitude wildlife safari
- India’s first high-altitude wildlife safari will be launched in Ladakh.
- The project was approved by the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
- It aims to stop illegal off-roading and protect wildlife.
- Main attractions will include snow leopards and birdwatching.
- The safari will cover areas such as Hemis National Park, Changthang, Karakoram, Kargil, Drass, and Nubra Valley.
